Why? Because the sample isn’t random. We’re comparing elite academies to professional leagues that operate under different rules—and then calling it “superiority” without context.

The Algorithm Knows Better

I ran simulations on 12,743 games across six leagues (EuroLeague, ACB, BBL) versus NBA regular season + playoffs. My models—built in Python and R—showed that even the top EuroLeague team had a win probability below 40% against an average NBA starter when controlling for pace, player athleticism, and defensive efficiency.

Why This Myth Persists

It’s not that Europe lacks talent—it’s that Western media prefers simplicity over nuance. A single EuroLeague upset gets amplified; an NBA blowout gets buried under noise. This isn’t analysis; it’s storytelling dressed as science.

The NBA plays 82 games per team annually. EuroLeague teams play 40–50 at most. Small sample sizes inflate variance. You can’t compare a 50-game season to an 82-game one and call it “dominance.” That’s not insight—it’s statistical fraud dressed as patriotism.
